Scribble Portraits!

Yes, this is a blog. Yes, I update it sometimes. Should I update it more? Probably. So, for your internet browsing entertainment, here are three portraits done in pencil and NuPastel. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is very fortunate and totally on purpose. One of these images bears a striking resemblance to myself. I hope you can tell which. If you are unsure, please don't leave a message in the comments. There is no need to do that to the two lovely ladies who agreed to pose for me.

A New Year's Appetizer

Hey internet friends!
    I am totally still alive and I have a plethora of wonderful things to post here. Christmas was great and super busy, and followed immediately by my younger brother's wedding, so I haven't posted any of the things I've made lately. So enjoy my three redesigns of Calvin and Hobbes for Joe Olson's class. Realistic, for girls ages 4-8 and for boys ages 9-14.

Holy Cow!

     Those of you who have been watching for a while may be aware that this is the time of year I usually post a rant/emo weep-fest about being rejected again from the art programs at BYU. For years I have deflected that age old college question, "What's your major?" by telling people, "I'm studying art." Notice, no claim of being an art major. I haven't been. For years I have been applying and being rejected from one department and the next.
     You may have noticed that there is no rant yet. And there shall not be one. I don't need to whine about rejection. I'm bigger than that.
     And I was accepted into BYU's Illustration department.
     See above.

I M LA-Z

Yes, I am SO lazy. I haven't really finished anything over the last month. Well, not true, but there's nothing that I can plop down here on my blarg. So, this is a preliminary drawing for the finished painting that I've already posted. I made it for an assignment in Joe Olsen's class for the theme "This is a place of evil" or something like that. It kind of looks like Fenris there is kidnapping Peter Pan, and the perspective made it difficult to paint, so a lot of changes were made, but I like the way that this one has more mood to it. I promise to stop slacking off soon.

At last, another semester has come to thunderous, crashing close. My poor abused brain has come to a grinding halt and I can be blissfully brain-dead for the rest of the year. Which is only about two weeks, but every little bit counts.
So! Here are my final projects from this semester. I'll probably go back and post other things that I did too. That way people might stop by and visit my poor lonely blog. The top one is my painting final, including Fenris from down below and the second is my final from Joe Olson's class to the theme of "Imminent Defeat."

Bunkey is a Viral Entity

This is Bunkey in his natural habitat; amid wreck and ruin. This was my final project for Joe's class. I LOVED this class. So much, in fact, that this was the second time that I've taken it! Bunkey here is actually a carry over from last semester. Michelle Weaver has an adorable little animal, part rabbit, part monkey; hence, Bunkey. He has become something of a celebrity and it has gone to his head. He's become a jerk, a drunk, a womanizer, an irresponsible gambler, incredibly violent and he swears like a sailor. Unfortunately, he is also still irresistably adorable. He knows it too.

Ding Dong the witch is dead! Or something like...

I love this time of year. You know, when peoples' thoughts turn to the ideal of "Peace on earth, good will to men," When everything gets covered with snow, and - best of all - classes are out for the semester.
See, Thanksgiving vacation is great and all, but there's still all of that schoolwork that I was supposedly working on during the break. With the Christmas break there's none of that. A guilt free vacation! Huzzah!
In honor of the death of finals, I give you the only final that I honestly enjoyed. No offense to any of my professors should they stumble across my blog by some bizarre anti-miracle, but their exams, papers and projects brought me a negligible amount of joy if they brought me any. This project, on the other hand, brought me much joy. I mean how can you NOT be inspired by a hippo-ridin' finger-slinger and his mexi-fish sidekick? Merry Christmas all! Just in case I don't come up with something else by then.

Finals! Blegh.

Check this out! This was my final project for my intro to drawing class. It's colored pencil on dah-dah-dah! paper! I'm fairly pleased with it. It's so nice to be finally finished with finals for the year. I hate finals week. Somehow they manage to pack an entire year's worth of stress into three days. My adrenaline gland is still going nuts! But it's finally over! I'm going to go do absolutely nothing for the next three days before life throws me another curve ball.
